CÉDRIC BEERKENS

ABOUT.

From a young age I've been keeping myself busy with tons of different creative hobbies, throughout my childhood this evolved into special liking towards drawing, leather working, photography and graphic design.

After looking at several fine arts bachelors to further develop the skills I learned as a kid, I fell in love with gold smithing and decide to pursue this career path. It enables me convert my creativity into functional and visually appealing pieces of jewellery or consumer articles.

As of now I am a student goldsmith at the trade school in Schoonhoven, learning all the ins and outs of the craft. The school I'm attending offers different courses within the industry, because of this I'm planning to attend a follow up course in silver smithing and watchmaking. With this in mind I aspire to be a master gold- and silversmith, working in my own studio in a couple of years.

MY VISION.

My style can be summed up as eco brutalist, incorporating raw and natural elements into an bauhaus-esque style. Firmly believing in the principles set by Water Gropius, who wanted ''to create a new guild of craftsmen, without the

class distinctions which raise an arrogant barrier between craftsman and artist''. My goal is to create practical pieces that can be used everyday, where form follows function. Basic and geometric shapes that are enhanced by rougher and more organic textures.
